Max Mize - Chairman
Chairman Max Mize represents the epitome of what a family owned business in the heartland is supposed to represent. Max’s father, Robert Mize Sr. started Mize and Company, Inc., in a Chicken Coop in 1936 during the Great Depression in Anthony Kansas. Battling to make ends meet for his family, Bob Mize Sr., took to the road selling whatever parts he could get his hands on to anyone that would buy from him. It was a humble beginning, but the basis for which a multi-million dollar company could be built. Upon Bob Senior’s retirement, Max and his brother Bob Jr., ran the company for several decades. Max eventually purchased all rights to the company from his brother, and led the company into the 21st century. During this phase, Mize and Company, Inc., moved from their founding location in Anthony Kansas to its current location in Kingman Kansas. Mize and Company, Inc. has become a multi-million dollar company during the transition and under the leadership of Max by accessing the global markets available to Mize and Company, Inc. During his illustrious career, Max has earned 6 patents with the US Patent and Trademark Office.
Although busy with the corporation, Max remained diligent in his civil service. Max was mayor of the City of Anthony while the company was based there, served on the City Counsel of Kingman when the company relocated, and eventually spent 3 terms as Mayor of the City of Kingman. Requested by party leaders to serve in the State Legislature, Max was voted into the Kansas House of Representatives. Serving on multiple committees and sub-committees, Max was chosen to be a delegate to the White House for Small Business. Max continued his service into countless civil organizations including the Jaycees, and Lions just to mention a few. Max continues to serve on boards in Florida, where he retired with his wife Donna in 2007.
Along with his steadfast focus on his company and civil duties, Max has been instrumental in bringing forth globalization for small business in the region. Max was a Charter Member of the World Trade Counsel of Wichita, and has traveled the world looking for business opportunities for small businesses in the region. Max has taken more than 20 trips to the Far East with trips to China, Taiwan, and Korea just to mention a few.
As with any good leader, retirement is a point in time, not a job description. Max remains highly engaged in the operations of Mize and Company, Inc., and spends several weeks every year on-site building the company into the next 80 years.
